Today we visited the Hassan II Mosque. It is Africa’s largest and the world’s tallest Mosque.
When taking the tour, we were told that the great room inside recognizes each of the three major religions. The mosque itself stands for Islam. The sides of the mosque featured large mezzanine balconies, recognizing Judaism and synagogues. The front of the room, near where the niche pointing to Mecca is, has pillars flanking both sides, creating the look of a cathedral. All of these design were specifically incorporated into the structure of the mosque to symbolize each of the World’s major religions.
